A purely technical question has come up regarding how to bypass geo-blocks. Currently, many users are using a VPN or proxy to bypass restrictions. If a visitor accesses the site via a VPN from another country, will ReTarget be able to accurately identify them, or will the system malfunction?
I'm curious about how their IP analysis and anti-fraud systems work. If a real user or a bot uses a free VPN, won't there be wasted impressions of irrelevant offers? For instance, if a user from a Tier-1 country connects via an Indian IP address, which pop-up will they see? Are there proxies in place to prevent irrelevant ads from being served in countries where users can’t sign up or complete verification? Has anyone tested this with real traffic volumes to see how conversions perform?
Hey there! The topic of VPNs is relevant because, right now, about a third of the internet traffic in some regions is routed through proxies. However, ReTarget’s modern geo targeting software doesn’t solely rely on basic IP databases. It analyzes a wide range of signals in real time, from WebRTC and the device’s time zone to the system language and ASN analysis, which determines whether an IP address belongs to a hosting provider or VPN service. If the system detects a proxy or VPN, it either blocks bot fraud or shows the most relevant ad to protect your ROI. It’s difficult to fool with a regular browser extension. In which geographic regions do you see the most VPN traffic?
